Silverware for Gu17!


The U17 girls took Merrion on at the Lady Acre for the Leinster Cup on
Wednesday, 17 August. The day started mostly cloudy with some scattered
showers, but that did not break the spirit of these young gladiators.

The Village batted first, with skipper Caoimhe and Lara with a good steady
partnership. Tight bowling from Merrion’s openers kept the opening batters
focussed. Malahide used the full thirty overs with 2 wickets to spare and
set a moderate challenge for Merrion having to chase 118 in 30 overs.

Barry took the girls for a fielding session the day before the final, and
that certainly paid off! The fielding was tight, the bowling was
exceptional, and with a few catches, two run outs and a stumping, Malahide
managed a fighting Merrion from getting the runs. Certainly a good example
of a Team effort with Malahide the eventual winners by 14 runs.

A big thanks to parents, supporters and Colin Wells and a BIG
congratulations to this special group of young ladies, on and off the
pitch!
