Match report Plate dream over for 13 boys

The U13 boys lost a disappointing plate semi-final to Terenure on Monday morning.

Wining the toss and putting Terenure into bat in overcast conditions and a soggy outfield, Malahide mixed good bowling with not so good to allow Terenure's batsman to pick off runs steadily and set a decent target of 127 for victory. An impressive, but luckless spell from Alex Hallows and some great outfield saves were the highlights for Malahide.

With the sun out and the outfield drying up quickly, 127 was well within Malahide's gift and a second successive plate final for the boys after the U11s last year beckoned. However you have to bat to win matches, and apart from a good knock by Zac (19), some lusty blows from Red (16) and further bad luck for Alex when out to what in hindsight was a tough LBW, Malahide wickets fell cheaply and regularly and the target quickly receded from sight. A pleasing unbeaten partnership of 16 at the end from Tom Hogan and Killian Burke put a minor gloss on what was in the end a very disappointing batting performance.
