Match report On what certainly felt like the hottest day of the year, a Malahide Under-13/14 side entertained a Bedford College touring side on the top pitch in bright sunshine and the heat of the day and lost by an even 100 runs.

Perhaps the best way to look at this game is that it was a useful experience for the Malahide boys. Bedford scored 244 in their 35 overs, taking fill advantage of a lot of short pitched bowling that was dispatched to the boundary at regular intervals. The highlights of the fielding was a well taken stumping by Sean Drumm off the bowling of Riley Shoebridge and a couple of very good stops from Ryan Condron, although two or three good catching chances were put down and there were opportunities for run outs that were missed as well. As a result, Bedford ended on 244 for 4 with three batsmen retiring on 50 and one running himself out on 47 with one ball left in the innings.

In reply Malahide reached 144 for 8, which after being 12 – 3 represents a decent recovery with David O’Halloran top scoring on 52 (retired) and contributions also from Ryan Condron (11), Sean Drumm (15), Cormac Burke (15) and Alex Hallows (16 n.o.). Bedford’s Colbert got the best results from the bowlers and ended with 4 – 17.

Each side was asked to choose a man of the match from the other team. Bedford chose David O’Halloran for his stylish 52 and Malahide chose the Bedford bowler Patil who bowled with pace and accuracy but no luck at all and on another day could have had three or four to his name.
