Match report On a day typical of this summer rain followed by sunshine followed by rain .... Malahide Ladies 1sts and Clontarf Ladies 2nds met in the Junior Cup Final on the Top pitch in Malahide thanks to the men's 5ths match being called off earlier in the day. Clontarf won the toss and elected to bat first in the very changeable conditions. Chairman Kevin came to the aid of the scorers providing a gazebo to keep them and the scorebooks dry and followed this up by presenting the home team with caps to commemorate the day- very much appreciated by all. Malahide opened the bowling with the usual mix of youth and experience through Margaret Richardson and Laura Morgan Walsh. The very tight bowling and excellent fielding made batting very difficult for the visiting side resulting in an early break through from a run out by Marianne Herbert the first of 4 run-outs in the innings. The visitors battled hard to post a score of 55 all out off 24.3 overs with Mae Crean-Bolster the top scorer on 11, Una Raymond Hoey 8 and Lauren Maxwell 8. Laura Walsh was the pick of the Home bowlers with figures of 7 1 11 3 well supported by F Gill 5.3 0 8 1, S O'Carolan Murphy 3 0 4 1, L Adams 2 0 8 1 and M Richardson 7 1 17 0. Marianne Herbert was the outstanding fielder for the home side constantly in the action in the covers and picking up a sharp catch and 2 run-outs.

With a good crowd of supporters for both sides watching on the home side started their reply with skipper Clare Shillington opening the batting with keeper Mary Waldron. A careful opening couple of overs with only 3 runs off the bat paved the way for an increase in tempo from the skipper in the 3rd over which saw the first of three maximums of the innings. With the weather threatening the skipper decided the match needed to finish inside time so she took on the bowling scoring the winning runs in the 7th over on route to 44no off just 23 balls. Mary playing the supporting role finished on 6no. An excellent 10 wicket victory to win the Junior Cup for Malahide.

The trophy presentation and media formalities (photos from the throng of photographers) were completed just in time before the heavens opened and drowned everyone and thing not back in the pavilion. A huge thankyou to all our great supporters who braved the weather in numbers to cheer us on to victory. Thanks also due to Mary for making the Tea, Kevin for helping with the ground, Johnny for being prepared to umpire if needed, Marc for all the coaching this season and for all involved in making it a great day for the club. Congratulations to Skipper Clare Shillington on her woman of the match award and the whole team for a great result and super season.
