Malahide Cricket Club Taverners v Leinster on Fri 17 Aug 2012 at 18:00
Malahide Cricket Club Won by 30 runs

Match report Friday saw the Taveners complete their disrupted summer schedule of matches with a match against Leinster CC. Winning the toss Captain Kevin decided to let the visitors bowl and it proved to be a good decision. It should be said that Pat Y’s confusion over the multiple popping crease lines and upsetting the visiting WK did not really help opener Dougie K who still rattled at having to sprint down the wicket was unable to repeat his performance of the previous week and was out caught at mid off driving one back down the ground for a hard worked 5 singles. His opening partner Pilkington and incoming Brian S both reached their retirement. Savo Snr ensured no relaxed early stand at the wicket for the Captain who coming in at 4 at to be a quick as Mr.Bolt to ensure he managed to 2 more than Dougie before one sprung up off the mat and he could only managed to loft it up landing in the WK’s glooves. Mike S and Danny both also added +20 scores, Danny with 6 ball faced getting 21. Niall O’B’s quick fire 11 was brought to a halt when he was bowled looking for the big one ! It was left to Robbie C to demonstrate how to hit the big one lofting the ball over the boundary for his now weekly maximum boundary. With Eamon L the only other wicket to fall (said bad light affected him) it was left to Peaches (1 N/O) and Robbie to see out the overs with a total of 131 runs finally on the board.
Leinster came with a reputation for big hitting but with the Capt’s precise field placing of bowler, WK and the rest told to scatter as well as mixing up the season settled bowling partnerships, the said bowlers giving nothing away with perfect line and length, ensured that Leinster were never allowed to get going. The seasons’ past big hitters were out for scores of 5,5,5 &6 before visitors Smith, Dillon and Murray got somewhat used to the fading light and put a bit of respectability on the board with 2 retirements before Shoebridge bowling Murray on 19. The incoming batters were unable to push the run rate on to what was required. With 38 required off the last over the responsibility for closing out the game and the season was given to Harry D who duly ensured that the target was not achieved. Malahide eventually winning by 30 runs. Thanks to Graham P for umpiring despite being dropped for the game. The usual excellent and traditional ham & egg salad closed out formal proceeding with Leinster nominating Mike Pilk as the MCC man of the match.
The season ended on a 4/6 win loss ratio for the 10 games played. Much talk of winter nets, wintering in sunny climes, tours, Upper Pitch floodlights and the like brought the shutters down in the Clubhouse much much later. Little sign seen of the vino tinto MofM award but as some say “wine then beer – Oh Dear” !
