Match report Sunday morning saw the girls on the lower pitch for a league visit of the Hills. A well prepared set of visiting supporters complete with breakfast, tea and coffee camped down to see the home team win the toss. Sorcha O’Carolan Murphy’s decision to bowl proved to be the right one. The home team this season is supplemented by 3 age group girls from Clontarf but it’s core is still largely the U13 squad. Using 6 bowlers the visiting batters were unable to deal with the pace and accuracy of the attack and were bowled out as each girl delivered 3 excellent overs. Una R-Hoey’s (Clontarf) 2 wickets for 6 off 3 was matched by Margaret’s Richarson’s 2/3/3, Naoimhe Docherty’s 2/5, including a double wicket maiden. Sorcha took 3 wickets for 8 runs finishing off the 10 girls visitors team.

Set a modest total of 35 to win the girls succeeded in 9 overs as Fiona Gill and Mae C-Bolster (C’tarf) put on a partnership of 17 before Mae was bowled by R. Pope. A brief wobble with Naoimhe suffering from her own medicine as she was caught at mid-on stretching for that first ball was steadied as Hannah Moore proved an able running partner to Fiona before she was caught behind to an excellent diving catch off Mooney’s spin by Watt, the keeper. In what proved to be a good start to the day for the Richardson batting family Margaret strolled to the middle and Mooney’s good start to the over was followed by a quick single to get Gill on strike. Gill duly dispated the last 2 balls for a 2 and a 4 to put the win in sight. Having waited for the right ball Richardson duly the winning 2 required in the 10th over and the game was won.

The big hitters of Twadell, O’Connor, the 2 OCM’s, Hoey, O’Donoghue and Brennan were not needed today.
