Match report Cup heartbreak for 13 girls with 1st round exit in a nail biter to Rush. Following a reschedule from yesterday because of the dismal weather the sun shone in the Village and the omens looked good as Malahide won the toss and elected to field. Despite some excellent bowling from the opening quartet of Gill, O'Connor, Richardson and Twadell they were unable to make the breakthrough until Rush had put 50 on the board in the 10th over when Margaret's steady line paid off with the centre stump being well and truly hit. The bowlers were helped by some impressive fielding from all the girls that limited Rush boundaries in the whole innings to two 4's. That practice is paying off and the bruises became badges of commitment as the game went on. Well done to Solome, Lucy, Sophie, Hanna and the rest. The change of bowling bringing Naoimhe and Niamh in helped slow down the Rush runs. Both Orla and Fiona will feel unlucky not to have taken wickets as they bowled great line and length regularly beating the edge of the bat and unfortunately teh stumps too. Margarets 2/19 off 4 and Naoimhe's 0/8 off 3 overs were the pick of the bunch.

Chasing down the score of 87 seemed a distant target when Orla played at the first ball and was beaten by the pace. Fiona then decided to chase the Rush bowlers and hit an impressive 21 including 4 fours before chasing one too many. Good running between the wickets including stealing runs off wides saw Margaret & Lauren push the score on but when both were bowled in quick succession the target looked too far away. However a quick partnership of fifteen Niamh and Caoimhe and then another dozen with Niamh & Hanna pushed the girls back on track. But Rush kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Both Lauran and Hanna were caught at mid-wicket, Helen was run out by a direct hit from cover and Naoimhe and finally Lucy were bowled leaving us 7 runs short of victory in what was a nail biting finale to a great game thoroughly enjoyed by the biggest crowd of the season. Well played to all.
