Malahide Cricket Club Junior Boys v Clontarf on Sun 15 May 2011 at 10:00
Malahide Cricket Club Lost By 72 Runs

Match report To start the season against Clontarf was always going to be a tough "ask" for the U13A's especially as we had been unable to get any preseason matches organised this year. However, you only improve by playing against better teams and even though Clontarf weren't quite at full strength they were still far too strong for an inexperienced Malahide team. Clontarf have alot of quality throughout their team and when they get all their players back it will be difficult to see anyone beating them this year.
Having won the toss and decided to bat, the Clontarf openers were soon despatching balls to all parts of the Malahide ground. Andrew Delaney was in dominant form and was quick to punish anything that was slightly wayward. When Andrew was retired on 36 , there was no let up for the bowlers as his twin brother then came to the crease for more of the same. It is also important to mention the performance of Stephen O'Quigley, the other Clontarf opener who batted extremely well and lost nothing in comparison to Andrew and David. It was a tough day at the office for all the Malahide bowlers, Cameron Shoebridge and Andrew Jackson both took a wicket and Andrew in particular bowled very well and was unlucky not to take a few more. These two were well backed up by Sean Drumm and Scott Talbot who both bowled well in the face of some big hitting. There was a flurry of late wickets and the Clontarf innings finished on 161 which was at least 50 too many to give Malahide much of a chance.
A good spell of swing bowling soon accounted for both Malahide openers, for a while whilst Luke Birrell and Cameron were batting together the run chase looked interesting. Cameron in particular was in good form hitting 6 boundaries before being retired on 36. However, tight Clontarf bowling and good ground fielding meant that Malahide continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. The innings closed an a total of 89 having taken the innings into the 19th over. The boys were well beaten today but they will learn alot from games like that, players like Ryan Condron, Tommy Friel and Ravi Golapolli who were all playing their first matches at U13A level were all very impressive.
