Having beaten YMCA 3rds the day before at The Village, the 2nds needed to win again in the return fixture to keep their slim hopes of promotion alive. On yet another warm September afternoon, Malahide won the toss and decided to have a bat, openers Andy Pyne and Cameron Shoebridge started well and they reached the 20 over mark on 83-0. After Pyner was out for 19, Cameron went on to make an excellent 67. Unfortunately there then followed a mid order collapse and it took a decent partnership between Atif Kamal (30) and Rob Chambers (18 not out) to get the total upto 176, defendable but probably about 50 runs short of a winning total. Malahide rotated their bowlers but YMCA were always up with the required rate and eventually reached the target in the 42nd over with 5 wickets down. The main contribution came from YM groundsman , Dale McDonagh-Kincade (Frostie make sure you have your whites ready for next season) who made an excellent 90 not out.
