2nds beat YMCA in 1st leg of "Double Header"

15 Sep 2014

The fact that Saturday Morning saw yet another 20/20 re-fix for the 2nd XI tells you everything you need to know about the shocking luck they have experienced this Summer with the weather. Of the 13 League Matches played so far, 6 have been re-fixed as 20/20 matches, if you add in the 2 fixtures V Phoenix 2nds which were effectively 20/20 matches due to rain that means that over 60% of the 2nd's league programme has been rain affected in what has been generally a very dry Summer.....go figure !!
On what turned out to be a good day for The Village against YMCA on Saturday, Malahide batted first and posted a total of 129 for 7 in their 20 overs based largely around an excellent 52 from Dickie Wing and a solid 22 from Hamish Manks. At the half way mark though this felt about 30 runs too few and it looked like YM were in the box seat. However, an excellent bowling and fielding performance from Malahide led by Keith Reynolds (4-0-14-2), Atif Kamal (4-0-22-1), George Deans (4-0-13-2), Rob Chambers (2-0-12-1) and Cameron Shoebridge (4-0-24-1) and also featuring a "wonder" catch from Dickie meant that YM gradually slipped behind the required rate evetually finishing on 103 for 9 in their 20 overs.
