Unsung Heroes

17 Jul 2019

Sarvjeet Singh and Eric Lacey.  Last man in Sarvjeet came to the wicket needing 4 off the last two balls of the game to win.  First and only ball faced Sarvjeet smashed a four to the mid wicket boundary to carry the 4ths over the line.   Earlier another recruit from the 5ths Eric Lacey batted with composure to share a crucial stand of 30 for the 8th wicket with Eoghan Keohane.  Lacey scored a run a ball 10 while Keohane played the more forceful innings taking the game home with a nerveless 20 not out.

Merrion 6ths won the toss and batted on a grass wicket on a Wednesday afternoon in Anglesea Road.   Teenage openers Keohane 3 for 11 and Daniel Read 2 for 15 caused havoc and reduced Merrion to 17 for 5.  The game looked over after their dozen overs of in swing and out swing.  However, the southsiders fought back manfully particularly Kamat 50 and young Luca Clinton 22* who played the best array of shots on the day.  149 for 8 off 30 overs was a decent score.

Shamil Kootembeth 36 and Adam Doyle 13 got us off to a start.  However in the end Keohane and the Unsung Heroes steered us to victory by the narrowest of margins.

Game reduced to 30 overs a side due to weather conditions.

Umpires = Peter Searson and Martin Mackey.
