Second win of the week for Junior A Boys

20 Jul 2019

An overcast and slightly damp start on the top pitch for the 2nd meeting of the week between Malahide's Junior A Boys and YMCA.

In a repeat of Tuesday's good start, Captain Matthew Clarke again won the toss and put the visitors in first. Without Wilhelm de Klerk this time and with their very capable opener Srihan arriving late, the new-look YM opening pair were up against it early on.

We struck early courtesy of Sean Condron with the best delivery I've seen all summer. An unplayable swinging fast ball that removed off stump. In fact ball after ball from Sean was swinging all over the place and the batsmen were at a loss to score off him. 4 overs, 1 for 9 for Sean.

All our bowlers were economical, James Dickinson 2 for 17 and Aaron Doyle 3 overs, 2 for 3 were the pick.

Our fielding had improved no end for this match too. Four sharp run outs, a swift stumping by Mathew Langan and a couple of great catches, particularly by William Hackett who ran a distance to grab a ball that never looked catchable, diving and tumbling over and, with his team mates wondering if he'll get up - he raised his hand, clutching the ball to confirm a great catch!

So YM managed just 73 against our fired up boys.

A changed batting order for us due to holidays and a slight injury to Captain Matthew Clarke, saw Sean and Michael Ranaghan open. A cracking boundary off the first ball showed our intent - no mercy.

After Sean was out early to a good catch, the rest of our batters looked very composed. Michael finished on 24, Aaron got 21, leaving Mathew Langan and James Dickinson to hit the winning runs in the 17th over finishing on 12 & 10 not out respectively.

So another commanding win for this team and a great team performance. Well done to all 11.

Thanks again to Karen for scoring and for the good support from parents and fine spread of food at the end.

The Hills Away next on Tuesday evening.
