Great team effort leaves Junior A Boys victorious

01 Aug 2018

The Junior A boys batted first and made steady progress against Pembroke's accurate bowling and tidy out-fielding.  Jack Grant retired on 30 ably supported by Aaron Doyle (12) and Daniel Crampton (13).  Yet, despite a handy 6th-wicket partnership between Oliver JC (9) and Matthew Ranaghan (16), the Pembroke bowlers kept things tight to the end and the Malahide innings closed on 102-7.

To defend that total we needed to be at our best in the field. From the off Mathew Clarke set the standard taking a wicket in his first over thanks to a brilliant catch by Mitch Grant.  Mathew C finished his four-over spell with the extraordinary figures of 1 for 2 with three maidens.  Pembroke's batsmen tried to wrest back the initiative, but at key moments the Malahide bowlers struck.  Rohit Updadhyay (3-9) and Daniel Crampton (also 3-9) did the main damage.  Sean Condren and Raj Upadhyaya finished the job with a wicket apiece.  Our fielders took their chances (good catches by Matthew Langan and Oliver JC). Jack, standing up, made two excellent stumpings.

Pembroke were all out for 86 leaving Malahide clear and worthy winners by 16 runs.
