The U17 boys ran out winners in a keenly-contested game at North County. Choosing to bat first, Malahide raced ahead with quick scoring from Zak Woods-Oliver (13), Yastri Naidoo (retired 35), Liam Lydon (12) and David O'Halloran (18). Pick of the top order batsmen was Camron Calder whose 37 retired included 4 huge sixes, the biggest of which lodged on the roof of the County indoor centre. Tighter bowling and three sharp run outs slowed Malahide's momentum, but in the end we had a good total of 144 off 20 overs to defend.
Eoghan Keohane (1 for 24) opened and his swing bowling made life difficult for the opposition. A good contest between bat and ball had County slightly ahead in the run chase after 10 overs. Malahide's attacking fielding, however, turned the tide with some smart catches and three run outs, the most spectacular of which was a direct hit from near the boundary by Matthew Jeffrey-Carrick. Adam Doyle, Ronan Furlong and Oliver Jeffrey-Carrick saved priceless runs and Jack Grant kept well in difficult conditions. At the end David (with figures of 2 for 9) and Matthew closed out the North County innings, leaving them 17 runs short of the target.
A great performance showing real spirit and teamwork.
