Junior A Boys win thriller at Clontarf

02 Jun 2018

Our Junior A Boys team traveled out to Clontarf full of  energy now school has finished and were met with muggy, overcast conditions.

Winning the toss and batting first, we set a steady scoring rate with Mathew Clarke retiring with another well crafted innings of 30. Elliot Manks joined in and clubbed 30 off 14 balls also retiring. Contributions also from Oliver Manks with 16 and a vital last two overs with Beth and James scrambling singles off byes and thin edges to ensure we got every possible run. Thrilling effort all round.

Clontarf's innings started slowly with runs hard to get, Fabulous fielding by the whole squad kept the runs under control, particularly my "Champagne Moment" with a direct hit run out by Daniel Crampton.

Clontarf's numbers 6 and 7 speeded things up with 57 runs between them and suddenly we were in trouble - they needed 17 off the last over. The gathering crowd becoming noisy at the prospect of a home win. They needed 10 off the last three and then 6 off the last ball. They went big - but Beth was fielding out in the deep and prevented the six and nearly caught it - conceding just a four and a well deserved victory for Malahide by 2 runs. Big celebrations from our side and a dejected looking Clontarf side. Great game. Lots of tension. Great result. Well played all.
