The 5th XI came up against a youthful and resourceful Terenure 3rd team. Choosing to bat first, Malahide lacked application and were dominated by an accurate and well-organised bowling attack. The exception was Mark Deacon who hit a forceful and disciplined 36.
Defending 73 was never going to be easy, but Malahide's fielding made Terenure have to work for their runs. Brian Thornes gave an exemplary performance behind the stumps. The bowlers though were ill-rewarded for their efforts, save for Bala Vasudevan who marked his return to Malahide by taking the 2 Terenure wickets to fall.
A special mention must go to Charlie Askew whose ground fielding and throwing set a standard for us all to match.
