The U15A boys are really coming together as a team and scored another good win against Merrion. Malahide’s opening pairing of Ben Askew (final figures 3-27) and Dan Read (2-9) soon had the Merrion innings in trouble. The later batsmen and batswoman restored some of the momentum, but Malahide bowlers never lost control. Wickets fell to SJ (2), Wilhelm and Matthew and Eoghan and Camron bowled economically. The bowlers were assisted by good ground fielding (particularly Oliver putting his body behind the ball), solid keeping from Rory (2 caught behind) and sharp catches from Camron, Dan and SJ leaving Merrion only 112 to defend.
The Merrion bowlers set out with intent and took a couple of quick Malahide wickets, but the de Klerk brothers steadied the innings. Once SJ had gone for an attacking 17, Wilhelm took control hitting a wonderful 57* including 7 fours and a six. Adam, Matthew and Diarmuid Burke, with an assured 16*, helped guide Malahide to a 5-wicket win.
