The final match for the U13B Boys away to The Hills ended in a frustrating defeat for Malahide.
Losing the toss and made to bowl first, Malahide's bowlers struggled to keep control, fighting squally showers and a bracing cross wind sweeping across the Margaretstown ground. 19 wides in an extras total of 34 would come back to haunt us later in the evening. The home team batted well though with a couple of strong top order batsmen. For us Josh Moore was the pick of the bowlers, bowling his 4 overs in a row claiming 2 wickets for just 14 runs.
For our innings, James Dickinson was sent out to open for the first time with the instruction to stay there and hold up one end. Following Mathew's departure bravely trying to speed up the scoring rate, the Moore Twins scored quickly, both retiring on 20 Not Out. Our run rate slowed as the wind dropped to assist the home bowlers. We eventually ran out of overs just 20 runs short of the target with James cruelly run out in the last over with 19 hard earned runs to his name and having played his part exactly as asked.
Difficult conditions for our bowlers and in the field ultimately cost us victory, but a thoroughly enjoyable and good humoured game against a talented, hybrid Hills team.
