Malahide Cricket Club News story

Danny Boy for the Village

14 Mar 2017

Malahide CC are excited to announce the appointment of the club's first women's lead coach Danny O'Shea. Irish-Australian O'Shea is the next piece in the coaching jigsaw for 2017 and will be flying into the Village at the end of this month, from his home in Melbourne.

Danny will also be tasked with delivering 1:1 sessions as part of the club's Academy project to really help bring on the youth section in the club for both boys and girls. Gary Stewart Chair of Cricket said, "The lead Women's coach is exciting due to the success the girl's youth teams have had recently. This focus will hopefully help transition those players into top end senior cricketers. Danny also has experience delivering 1:1 sessions so it makes sense to utilise his skills as much as possible."

As well as coaching Danny is a top player and has represented Victoria U19's as well as playing Premier 1st grade standard in Australia for Deepdene Bears. He has also played in the Surrey Championship the last 3 seasons taking over 135 wickets. He spent 2010, up North in Carrickfergus so is accustomed to Irish conditions.

Danny is an Irish passport holder, due to this roots in Kimmage, Dublin and has targetted a call up to the Irish National Team if things go well on the pitch. The left arm tweaker and aggressive hitter said, "I'm keen to impress not only in Malahide but also the rest of Irish Cricket. I have ambitions to represent Leinster Lightning and ultimately Ireland so doing well for Malahide is the first big step on the journey. I can't wait to get over to the Village and get stuck in."

Danny will take on some duties of the CDO role for the first month including delivery of the Easter Camp and the start of the schools coaching programme.
