The club's Cricket Development Group and Executive Committee are delighted to confirm the coaching structure for 2017. The structure includes a Cricket Development Officer role and Lead Women's Coach, as well as the Head Coach position recently filled by Fintan McAllister.
Chair of the CDG Gary Stewart said, "The Coaching structure for 2017 puts a real emphasis on developing young players in the club as well as paying close attention to the Women and Girls teams which have done exceptionally well over the last few years. There's some great players in the girls ranks and we want to support and progress women's cricket and really put Malahide at the top table of Women's cricket in Ireland."
As well as employing a Lead Women's Coach, the club will again be investing in a Cricket Development Officer to provide schools coaching and junior programmes across all age groups. Stewart added, "The CDO is a vital part of the club putting and will again work with the youth coordinator Ann McCormack, who has been doing great work getting the team manager's in place and the Easter Camp ready for bookings."
The CDO won't just be concentrating on the juniors, with some innovative ideas lined up for the rest of the community. These include circuit style 'cricfit' classes for adults, walking cricket for the active retired and even rounders-style sessions for parents who may not be familiar with the rules of cricket. "The CDO gig will concentrate on all club members, this year there will something for everyone so there's no excuses not to get involved!" More on this will be announced in the following weeks.
The club's Head Coach Fintan McAllister has made a strong start to his tenure with some great pre-season sessions down at Urban Cricket. Club Chair Ciaran Keahane has been impressed, "There's been a solid turnout and great buzz. Finto has been doing a great job delivering some really exciting sessions. I must say everyone looks to be having a great time."
Pre-Season training restarts on March 26th, 9-11am at Urban Cricket on the Long Mile Road.
Fintan will be leading a players meeting at the club tomorrow Tuesday 14th March to discuss training plans for the season. All players welcome for an 20:30pm start.
