In the annual match for the “Slippery Catch” trophy, the Taverners were out-played, out-fought and just plain out too much. Put into bat they started brightly with Jef Oliver scoring a quick fire 21 rtd. before a succession of naggingly accurate bowlers and The Broph, rolling back the years with 2 wickets and a run out, left them stranded on 76. Of the later batsmen only Fran Reynolds’ (15) made double figures.

Nevertheless, a stout (sic) defence of the score and trophy was attempted. But despite sharp fielding by Dougie Keegan, 3 catches behind the stumps from his young protégé Robbie Condron and 3 wickets for Eric Lacey, the total was never enough and the bar quickly beckoned.
