5th XI cruise to much needed win over Leinster

09 Aug 2015

After almost 2 months without a win, the 5ths put in a superb alround performance to beat Leinster 6ths by 6 wickets with almost 12 overs to spare. The 5th XI took it's youth policy to the next level with 8 under age players in the team today including 10 year old Wilhelm De klerk making his debut in senior cricket. The victory was built around an excellent fielding performance including a number of outstanding catches (SJ De Klerk, Ryan Condron and Zac Woods-Oliver) that supported some disciplined bowling particularly from our trio of spinners. Ryan Condron was the stand out bowler with 3 for 24 in 8 overs, SJ took 1 for 10 and Zac bowled an excellent spell of 8 overs for only 10 runs. Leinster were limited to 133 for 8 in their 40 overs with Mary Waldron putting in an outstanding exhibition of high class keeping behind the stumps.

Malahide's reply was built around Mary's innings of 78no with shots all round the wicket. She built good partnerships thoughout the innings and whilst she was at the crease a Malahide victory always looked likely. At the fall of the 4th wicket she was joined by Mal Ogilvy who batted like he had a flight to catch and his rapid 19no took us over the line for a much needed win. A great win from definitely the youngest team that we have fielded this season.
