The Malahide U13b's successfully defended a reasonably strong total of 98, winning by 22 runs against a resilient Phoenix eleven.  After 12 overs, Phoenix were ahead by three runs for the same number of wickets and the game looked like it would go down to the wire.  The retirement of two of the opposition's batsmen, whilst, at the corresponding period, Malahide's Finn and Eoghan accelerated the scoring, meant that Phoenix fell steadily behind the needed run rate.  
Good innings also from Rory, who retired, and subsequently collected two wickets; and a handy knock from Wilhelm in the last over or two.  Wilhelm also collected a wicket.  Good fielding from Tony and Sam, with the latter due some runs the next time he bats.   Disciplined  line and length bowling from Diarmuid, Oliver and Ciaran :  the former getting a wicket with his fifth delivery.  Sam bowled one of the Phoenix openers in his first over and impressed with three opening overs of leg spin. Eoghan mopped up the Phoenix innings with wickets from consecutive deliveries courtesy two very good catches behind the stumps from relief 'keeper Daniel.  
Concerted team effort : well done and thanks to the three U11's Wilhelm, Sam and Oliver for stepping up to the crease.
