On a balmy Summers evening our U13 girls welcomed the girls from Phoenix CC to the village, along with an enthusiastic group of supporters from both sides.  Winning the toss, captain for the day, Sarah Condron put the opposition into bat.

 

Isobel and Sarah C opened the bowling for Malahide, keeping the run rate down against 2 fine opening batters, culminating in a first wicket from a brilliant piece of fielding & direct hit by Sarah Brophy in the 4th over.  As the overs progressed we took 4 further wickets from the bowling of Romy, Sophia and Sarah B - the Phoenix girls played some classy shots reaching a total of 76-5.

 

The Malahide innings began slowly, due to tight, controlled bowling from the opposition, however we upped the tempo and runs scored, with Isabelle Hackett hitting 2 beautiful fours during her spell at the crease.  Sophia and Romy kept the crowd entertained with some audacious running!  It all came down to our final pair of Maria and Sarah B to attempt to get us home, and they duly delivered in the final over, with the home team sneaking home by 2 runs. The home crowd going home happy, albeit with some frayed nerves.
