U13b boys beat Terenure but go down to Rush in last-ball thriller

13 Aug 2014

The U13b boys nearly completed a great double when they comfortably beat Terenure on Saturday by 73 runs, but then just failed on Tues night to follow up against Rush, losing by one wicket to a last ball boundary.

Rory Govan (28 retired) and Cormac Burke (25 retired) led the way against Terenure as the team compiled a respectable 116. In reply, Terenure struggled once their danger batsman was removed by Ciaran Cope and limped to all out for 43, with the Keohane brothers Eoghan (2 for 1) and Cillian (1 for 1) returning the best bowling figures.

Against Rush, 9-man Malahide again batted first and Daniel Murphy (23) and a fantastic knock by Diarmuid Burke (26 retired) helped the boys to 106 in their 20 overs. Rush lost regular wickets, with Diarmuid and Eoghan Keohane sharing 5 clean bowleds' between them, but they kept the scoreboard ticking over until they got to the 20th over with 2 wickets in hand and 9 runs to get.  A roller coaster over that read LB, W, 1, 4, 2 brought the sides level with one ball remaining and with the field in, the Rush batter succeeded in lifting over the infield for a winning boundary. A fine effort by the boys nonetheless.
