5ths lose a close one to League Leaders

05 Aug 2014

Having lost the toss and been put into bat, everything looked good at the first drinks break. After 20 overs we were 95 for 2, both Mark Duffy and Glen Cosgrove were 40 not out, Mark was looking good value for a 2nd ton in a week and Glen (as he always seems to do) was making batting look ridiculously easy. So something over 200 looked a real possibility but even a total up around 175 would likely be a winning score. Well we all know what the game of cricket is capable of.....in the space of 2 overs ,Duffer, Glen and Kev McPhilemy were all back in the hutch and the more than decent Lucan bowling attack were back on top. We eventually "limped" to 130 all out in the 39th over, so 35 runs for 8 wickets in 19 overs.....ouch. Not nearly enough but an excellent bowling and fielding performance from a very young attack almost got us over the line. Alex Davies (2), Mark Duffy and Glen Cosgrove all took good catches and Riley Shoebridge was very good behind the stumps. Glen bowled with some serious pace and it defies logic that he didn't take a wicket, Mark Duffy  took 3 for 21, Sean O'Donohue 1 for 16, Bob Chambers, 2 for 27 and Ryan Condron 1 for 17.  Lucan eventually reached the target in the 32nd over with 7 wickets down, but they had got a bit of a fright, I'm sure they will go on to win Division 11 this year but the young lads can be proud of pushing them hard and will learn important lessons about turning good match situations into victories.
