Malahide Cricket Club News story

4ths beaten in Bray.

04 Aug 2014

The date may have been the 3rd of August but the temperature was more 3rd of November , still on a weekend where any cricket was a rare occurance it was great to get a full match in. Judging by the length of the grass on the outfield at Pres Bray School, I would say that Wicklow County are tough to beat on their home ground. So having won the toss they invited Malahide to have a bat with the expectation that even a half decent bowling performance would restrict Malahide to a very chasable score. Unfortunately that's the way it worked out and apart from an excellent 51 from Inder Singh and a useful 17no from Scott Talbot none of the Malahide batsman could get established. Our final total of 130 all out in 42 overs was defendable but only just. Wicklow made steady if unspectacular progress toward the target in the face of some good Malahide bowling, the standout performance were Conor Gibbons 1 for 19 in 9 overs, Benlee Muttahothill 1 for 18 in 5 overs and Alex Davies who bowled really well recording figures of 2 for 6 in 2 overs. A special mention should go to Steve Twaddell who pulled off a spectacular diving catch that will definitely get him thrown out of the "Taverners Union". Wicklow completely their victory in the 38th over but they really needed the experience of  "old hands " Nicky Fusco and Angus Hancock to get them there.
