Historic Tri Series in Luxembourg

24 Aug 2020

Atif Kamal former Malahide player  is looking forward to the first ever official series of T20 matches to be held in Luxembourg.  Luxembourg host Belgium and Czech Republic in a Tri Series between 28-30 August 2020.  All matches will be held on the Pierre Werner Cricket Ground which has been approved by the ICC.

The Series has been organised by the Luxembourg Cricket Federation following the postponement of the T20 World Cup Qualifying Tournaments in Spain, Belgium and Finland due to the pandemic.

The Tri Series promises to be keenly contested as all three countries are nestled together in the ICC World T20 rankings: Czech 54, Lux 58 and Belgium 63.  Ireland is ranked 12.

Atif is the Luxembourg bowling coach and has been busy preparing for the Series  -  “My focus as a coach is on the technique of the bowling group but also on the mental side of things as T20 cricket can be very challenging for bowlers”.

Seam bowler Atif played for Malahide between 2009-2015 with over 100 appearances for the firsts and seconds.  He has been living and working in Luxembourg since 2016.  He has 4 caps for Luxembourg.  He plays for Optimists CC.  He has taken a break from playing but hopes to resume in the future.
