5ths well beaten in Greystones

18 Aug 2019

The trip down to Greystones was made in good weather, but we returned under a cloud.

Greystones won the toss and batted first.  Our bowling and fielding were generally tight, but we still gave away 35 extras which didn't help our cause.  Sarvjeet Singh (finishing on 1 for 27) and Karthik Subbiah (1 for 34) offered pace and movement, but weren't justly rewarded for their efforts.  Instead the momentum rested with the opposition.  Bala Vasudevan (2 for 31) and Mark Deacon (2 for 35) took vital partnership-breaking wickets, but we struggled to stop the quick singles and the opportunistic twos.  Ronan Furlong kept well after a long break from the game in testing conditions.

The target of 209 was achievable given the large outfield and suitable application.  The score card, though, shows 6 batsmen out caught and 2 run out which says a lot about our batting and their fielding.  The notable exception was Aaron Doyle who scored an impressive 18 that featured shots of real quality.  Otherwise only Graeme Tarbox reached double figures.  We were all out for 54.
