Junior A Boys off to a flying start in the T20 Cup

01 Jun 2019

With some changeable weather forecast for the start of the June Bank Holiday weekend, a full strength Junior Boys A team met early at North County hoping for an early start to beat the weather. Winning the toss and putting the home team in was a shrewd move from Captain Jack Grant as the clouds descended and the drizzle took hold.

Their openers did well in wet & windy conditions, but once they departed, both caught by Charlie and Aaron, and after a short rain break to allow this umpire to clean his glasses, all they had left was big-hitting Rohit who progressed well to 18 before OIlie Manks sent his middle stump cartwheeling into the North County Dublin Countryside. 82 wasn't going to be enough against our batting line up.

As per the forecast, the skies cleared, the sun shone and the wind dropped as Jack and Matthew Clarke strode out to the middle. Jack fell early to some excellent out-swing bowling by their Captain Ryan, but Aaron Doyle joined Matthew to set about the run chase in earnest. A quick fired 35 (retired) for Aaron, which included 4 fours and two huge sixes brought Finn to the crease to finish the job leaving himself and Matthew not out when our total reached the required 83 after just 9.3 overs. Despite some comedy fielding by us early on in the bad weather, we regained our composure to perform well as a team all round. Good catches from Noah, Aaron & Charlie, a sharp run out from Daniel and some excellent fielding in the deep from Sean Condron, Matthew Langan and Oliver Manks ensured we were in control from the start.

A good team effort.

Thanks also to injured William Hacket for doing the scoring.
