U15 boys clinch Clontarf cup-tie

03 Jul 2018

Malahide U15 (or more accurately combined U15, Junior and Minor) boys took the field against a similarly diverse Clontarf team.

Batting first on a grass strip, Malahide took advantage of the longer, 30-over format to build a formidable innings.  The basis was a 88-run, second-wicket partnership built with assurance and considerable skill by Adam Doyle (53) and captain Eoghan Keohane (33).  Once they were gone Oliver Jeffrey-Carrick (24*) held the rest of the innings together with a well-crafted innings that featured some lightning running between the wickets.  James Dickenson hit a quick-fire 16.  Malahide finished on 189 for 7.

A chase of more than a run a ball was going to be a challenge, but the fast outfield meant a large reply was always possible.  The Malahide bowling attack, however, was in no mood to compromise.  Eoghan with remarkable figures 4 for 4 off 4 overs, assisted by Adam with 3 for 9, Aaron 2 for 26 and Oliver 1 for 6, demolished the Clontarf batting to leave Malahide the victors by 141 runs.

On a day of excellent individual performances, it was most gratifying to see a great team spirit, especially in the tight fielding, the forceful running between wickets, and the support they gave to each other.  Congratulations too then to Charlie Askew, Sean Condron, Finn Doran, William Hackett, Raj Upadhyaya, and Rohit Upadhyay.

Thanks to the parents who gave lifts and turned up to support.

The U15s now meet Munster in the next round.
