Junior A Boys lose high scoring home T20

08 Jun 2018

Despite losing to Phoenix for the 2nd time this year, this match is worthy of mention due to the high scores involved which gave invaluable experience to our team.

With the new T20 Junior Cup rules now allowing a batsman to score freely without retirement, our team was in awe of the Phoenix opener, Abdullah, who scored a thunderous 135 not out - something never before seen at this age group. Phoenix managed a whopping 190 for 2 from their 20 overs, helped by some sloppy fielding and wayward bowling on our part, dropping 4 catches - including dropping Abdullah twice!

Our boys batted quite well and kept up with the required rate early on, but Phoenix were sharp in the field taking three catches and 2 direct hit runs outs. Our total of 135 for 8 would have won plenty of other matches, but we were outclassed by the power hitting of Abdullah with his 23 fours and 2 huge sixes.

A surreal evening in blazing sunshine spent on the top pitch with 20,000 concert goers streaming by and the beat of the music emanating from behind the trees as youngsters bashed 325 runs around the park. All very enjoyable, more so for Phoenix sadly.
