The first match of the season for the new Junior A Boys team proved a tough challenge away to Phoenix.
Under clear blue skies and glorious sunshine, Malahide won the toss and elected to bat first. With an array of big and strong 2nd year boys providing a fearsome and unrelenting bowling attack for the home team, several of our boys struggled against the pace with 6 scores of 1 or below!
The exception was opener Mathew Clarke who showed great resolve with an unbeaten 31 in what was a very mature innings. Oliver JC held up the other end for a while, remaining unbeaten on 16 at the end. 80 was never going to be enough though. The Phoenix top order clubbed our bowlers to all parts of the ground, reaching 81 for the loss of 2 wickets in the 12th over.
