The U15B team reached the final of the B League with an emphatic 71-run victory over Merrion. Malahide's opening batsmen, Diarmuid and Wilhelm immediately put pressure on the opposition with intelligent and attacking cricket, both reaching their fifties and automatic retirement. The next batsmen, Rory, Jack, Adam and Matthew, kept the score ticking over at a run a ball to leave Malahide on 149 after 25 overs.
At the start of the Merrion innings Diarmuid and Matthew bowled with pace and aggression and placed Merrion literally and metaphorically on the back foot. Eoghan took the breakthrough wicket with Rory effortlessly poaching a sharp chance at square leg. The spinners then snuffed out the innings: Wilhelm and Rory bowling 10 overs between them for just 21 runs. The ground fielding was superb, with Tony and Paul stopping anything that came near them and the U11s, Aaron and Mitch (on as sub), conceding nothing in ability and commitment to their older team mates. Oliver took another good catch at mid-on off Rory and then Adam got a run out. Jack kept brilliantly, a phrase that has been much used this season.
Thanks to Christopher, who couldn't play through injury, but scored for the whole match and to Merrion for a game played in excellent spirit. It was just not their team's day.
And so to the final ...
