Women's 2nds Host Pembroke for Friendly

11 Aug 2017

The Malahide Women's 2nd team hosted Pembroke for a friendly match on Wednesday evening. Pembroke had 10 players, with a mixture of players. The Malahide team consisted of 12 players, with Vicki and Chantelle joining in for their first game of the season. Both teams agreed to playing paired cricket and once all the pairs were sorted, we were ready to begin.

Pembroke batted first and steadily scored their runs. Abby (3-11) and Tess (2-7) bowled superbly. The Mother/Daughter combintion of Vicki and Beth both got a wicket, with Vicki's over being a wicket maiden! The team fielded brilliantly, wicket keeper Gemma, stopped everything that came to her and Karen got 3 run outs. Pembroke finished on 104 for 10.

Abby(9) and Sofia (14) opened the Malahide batting innings strongly with well timed shots and quick running between the wickets. Gwen (21) and Chloe (5) played well together and as a pair, making 30 runs. Maria (10) and Juliette (4) were in next and  there was no let up from Malahide with their run scoring. Next up were the Deacons, with Beth (4) and Vicki (2) scoring consistent runs,  not loosing wickets and wanting to stay on the pitch as they were enjoying it so much!! The fifth pairing of Karen (6) and Chantelle (2) scored steadily. Even though this was Chantelle's first batting experience, she played some lovely shots and ran well between the wickets. Our last pairing was Tess (14) and Gemma (16) who finished the innings off in style with fours hit around the ground and solid running between the wickets. Malahide finished on 121 for 5, a win by 42 runs.

The game was enjoyed so much by everyone, that we will have to make it an annual event. Special thanks to our Umpires David O'Halloran and Pembroke's superstar umpire, 9 year old Bruce (watch out for him in the future!!). Thanks also to our wonderful kitchen team (Babs, Collette, Emer, Lara and Georgia) who prepared the pizzas, wedges, garlic bread and drinks for our teas.

To Pembroke, thanks for a lovely evening of cricket and fun and we look forward to doing it all again! 😀
