The U13A boys lost a tight match away to North County on a breezy and showery Saturday morning.
Losing the toss and being put in, Malahide batted well with a typically imperious innings from Wilhelm, retiring on 31 from 27 balls, supported well by Elliot who also retired on 31 from 23 deliveries. Oliver also batted maturely ending up not out on 29. A good appearance again from Aaron Doyle, borrowed from the U11 squad, who showed style to end on 9 not out.
Quietly confident that our 121 might be enough, North County also got off to a speedy start with both openers retiring in the early 30's. An excellent spell from Wilhelm (0 for 7 off 4 overs) slowed their run chase and made things interesting, but some sloppy fielding, overthrows, occasional wayward bowling and not taking any wickets, enabled the home side to surpass our total in the 18th over.
Some stylish keeping from Mathew Langan, also borrowed from the U11 squad who, with Aaron showed that what they lack in years they make up for in ability.
So an evenly matched game with both sides having their chances to win. Thanks to North County for your hospitality and warm welcome.
