The U13A boys put on a commanding performance against Pheonix on a fine July evening, winning by 98 runs. Batting first, the Malahide top order was unforgiving, punishing any wayward delivery. Wilhelm was in a hurry, hitting 5 fours and 1 six to retire on 33. Jack Grant’s well-paced innings and Elliot’s powerful hitting left them retired on 30 runs each. Oliver J-C added a quick 18, leaving Malahide on 138 after 20 overs.
Malahide’s opening bowlers, Mathew and Oliver J-C, made the Pheonix challenge all but impossible, giving away just 10 runs after 5 overs. Our next bowlers took the game away. Wickets fell to Oliver M, Zohaib (2), Wilhelm and Finn. Making their debut for the As, Ellis with 2 wickets for 3 runs and Jack Bourke 2 wickets without conceding a single run finished the job. Malahide’s fielding was impeccable, with scarcely a fumble in the field, and was epitomised by James’s sharp catch at backward square leg. Jack was imperious behind the stumps removing one batsman with a lightning-fast stumping.
This was another tremendous collective effort from the Malahide lads and bad luck for Phoenix who had the misfortune to meet a team on such form.
