With the season getting on its way herewith an update on MCC’s women teams.

It is an exciting season that lies ahead for the Malahide Girls.  With two internationals just returning from a tour to Abu Dhabi/South Africa (Mary and Lara) bringing their experience to the squad we hope to bring some silverware home in the 2017 season.

There are currently two Malahide youngsters training hard in the The Shapoorji Pallonji Cricket Ireland Academy, Caoimhe McCann and Lara Maritz.  Furthermore, there are FIVE Malahide girls that train with the Interprovincial teams,

The Dragons, Mary, Tess, Caoimhe and Lara  

The Scorchers Sarah Condron. 

With training and possible matches, they will bring professional experience to the club’s teams.

To top this up we have a few U13 and U15 girls that are in the Leinster and Ireland training squads that worked hard over the winter season.  Many of these youngsters play in the senior teams.  With Cricket Ireland gaining Full membership to the ICC, cricket in Ireland is going places!

I recently invited a work friend to a Dragons/Scorchers match in College Park (Trinity College) and he was pleasantly surprised by the quality and professionalism of the match.  He is now a dedicated Dragons fan and is eager to follow the tournament this year.  So, spread the word, invite friends, work friends and family to Women cricket matches.  The more the merrier!

The Firsts had their first go at Leinster on 25 May, missing a few of their regular / senior players and lost by 26 runs in late May, but a learning curve for the younger players.  Moving on with new lessons learned.

The 2017 season started for the Seconds with a cup match against the Hills.  Lost by ONLY 2 runs on 23 May, but a great team effort and spirits up.  Tess Maritz, the new captain for the seconds is positive about the coming season especially after a great win in a friendly against Phoenix.  Tess:  “I really think we can do it this year, we have all the passion and dedication to be the best in Leinster”
