Match report
Malahide batted first and Tess Maritz (26) got Malahide off to a fast start as she found her timing right from the start. Grace Flanigan (17) continued where Tess left off. The Phoenix change of bowling to Orla Martin (3-18) bowling wicket to wicket dismissed 3 of our top 4 as she showed if you miss I hit.
Sorcha O’Carolan Murphy (10) played crucial innings with Malahide opener Caoimhe McCann(58*). With both Sorcha and Caoimhe rotating the strike well as Orla kept the pressure on. A mature innings by Caoimhe (58*) was the backbone of 138 for 4 target set by Malahide and was very well supported by Ella Caird(10) coming in at end rotating the strike nicely.
Lara Maritz(2-11) and Karen Corroon(3-11) opened the bowling for Malahide. Phoenix openers started slowly but looked to be getting in when Lara struck with 2 wickets in 2 balls at end of 7th over. Karen followed this up with 3 wickets. Malahide’s fielding uncharacteristically dropped several catches early on but then improved with super catches from Lara and a direct hit run out from Sorcha. Sarah Condron (1-6), Sarah Brophy (1-11) and Isobel McCormack (2-2) took the last few Phoenix wickets.Phoenix finished with 43 all out in the 19th over.
