Scorecard

Railway Union v Malahide Cricket Club Junior Boys B on Sat 21 Jun 2014 at 10am
Malahide Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets

Match report Railway Union won the toss and opted to bat. Conditions were perfect for playing any form of cricket, with the light breeze complementing the warm sunshine.

Diarmuid Burke and Dan Read opened the bowling for Malahide and the first few overs saw a direct hit run out thrown by Ben Askew. Indeed, the Malahide fielding performance was characterised by some very sharp run outs that, coupled with keeping to the basics, saw runs off the bat restricted. Perhaps one or two overs saw too many wides, but a solid keeping display from Cormac Burke kept further extras to a low total. Matthew Carrick and Paul Devine bowled first change and continued the accurate line of the opening bowlers. Although one of the Railway batsmen retired, wickets fell regularly, with the remaining batsmen not really troubling the scoreboard. Binyan Keegan took the wicket keeping duties for the second half of the innings and did a fine job. Ben Askew bowled well without luck; Eoghan Keohane maintained a good line and length and was rewarded with a wicket. Dan Murphy and Cormac both bowled a couple of overs : Dan rewarded with a deserved wicket, while Cormac was very unlucky. Both Killian Burke and Cillian Keohane, along with Tony O'Connor were regularly called upon in the field, Railway finished with 80-8 and Malahide was looking at a reasonable target.

Cillian and Binyam strode to the wicket and then kept the bowling at bay for a few overs, looking very comfortable. Unfortunately, Cillian was run out, but not before he played some nice defensive shots. Cormac hit a boundary with his first ball, but then tickled one through to the 'keeper, leaving Malahide 20-2. Eoghan Keohane joined Binyam at the crease and the two took the score into the 60's. Binyam timed the ball to perfection and Eoghan played very maturely. Both players retired, Binyan on 25, and Eoghan on 15, making way for Ben and Killian. These latter two continued to play in an attacking fashion and the 82 runs were achieved with a good few overs remaining.

A substantial win, the second of the season, for the 13Bs. Well done to all the lads on a great team effort.
