Match report
On a beautiful sunny evening in North Kildare Malahide Ladies 1sts won the toss and took to the field with a young and inexperienced team supplemented by a few experienced veterans. The home side got off to a better start than in the cup game a few weeks ago but were contained by excellent bowling from the young Fiona Gill 4 0 15 0 and Margaret Richardson 4 0 18 1 well supported by the every youthful Barbara McDonald 3 0 11 1. With some excellent fielding from our debutants along including a run out and a run out off the last ball by Clara Pryor the Villagers restricted the home side to 134 for 6 off their 20 overs.
An exciting new all attack opening partnership of Clara & Shillers started off the Malahide response at a great rate putting on 46 runs before the loss of Clara for 10 at the start of the 5th over. Cathy Murphy joined Shillers at the crease and they continued ticking off the runs at a good rate until the Skipper was tempted into an ariel shot just after reaching another 50 for the season. Cathy was joined by the left hand bat Fiona Gill and the new partnership continued to rotate the strike and reduce the target before Cathy was caught for 30 leaving it to Babs and Fiona to see the villagers home with 7 wickets and nearly 5 overs to spare. Another good win for the villagers to consolidate the excellent start to the season. Next game up is Clontarf at home this Thursday.
