Match report The match pairing up the Taveners with MRC eventually took place on Friday last in the Village. Batting first MRC put on 133 in their 20 overs with Alun Brophy (yes of both clubs) and R.Forbes both retiring over the majority of the remainder scored double figures. Tight bowling from Pinglinton and O’Brien kept the score down while Harry Deegan in his comeback managed to catch 2 batters by surprise with straight bowls (or maybe the setting sun). The remaining bowlers were enthusiastic.
In reply MCC’s innings got off to a bad start when Saville was run out for 4. However Keegan and Pinglinton pushed past the run rate with 22 & 21 retired. Making her debut as maybe the 1st adult female to play MCC Taveners Fiona O’Hara set the marker down for quick singles, 13 of them. Danny, the Peach and others are now aware of her speed off the blocks. The Peach’s 17 and a Robbie C 12 were not enough and despite MRC being top scorer with 26 extras we fell 9 runs short and the honours went to the Rugby Club. There followed the usual dinner, speeches and a few quiet ones in the bar. Man of Match not available at time of going to press.
