Malahide Cricket Club Lost By 22 runs

Match report On a bright summer evening in Castle Avenue, Malahide Ladies 1sts suffered their first defeat at the hands of Clontarf Ladies 2nds. The skipper continued her great run of winning the toss and chose to field. The home side started steadily and were 33 off 10 overs before Laura Erskine 28 and Sue Dunphy 29 started to find the boundary giving them a total of 96 for 3 off their 20 overs. The Malahide bowling figures were again led by young Margaret Richardson 1 for 12 off 6 overs including 2 maidens with another young talent Naoime Doherty picking up a wicket off her bowling courtesy of a catch by Barbara McDonald. The only other wicket to fall was taken by veteran Lynn Adams just to keep the younger generation on their toes. The visitors will feel that standards in the field were not quite as high as in the previous matches played this season and hope that some hard work at training will bring greater intensity and fight to the next match.
Malahide began the chase brightly with the Skipper 8 and Barbara McDonald 13 opening. A catch juggled but held by Una Raymond Hoey off Laura Erskine's bowling saw the end of the Skipper in the 2nd over and the introduction of Laura Morgan to bat for the 1st time this season. Babs and Laura steadied the ship and were progressing nicely until Babs was caught in the 7th over with the score on 31. Some very tight bowling by the home side especially Olivia Golden 3 for 7 off 6 overs (including 4 maidens) increased the run rate required which Malahide were unable to keep up with despite the best efforts of Ciara O'Carolan Murphy who finished unbeaten on 12. The visitors finished up 22 runs short on 74 for 6 off 20 overs. An excellent team discussion afterwards will hopefully show benefits in the next match.
