Malahide Cricket Club Won By 93 runs

Match report Malahide Ladies 1sts made the journey out to close seaside neighbours Rush on a beautiful sunny evening in stark contrast to the previous match. With the sun shining skipper Clare decided to enjoy the sunshine by re-jigging the batting line-up allowing Mary Waldron 92 and Cathy Murphy 67* to open the batting for the Villagers. An excellent opening stand of 162 only ended in the final over when Mary was bowled by E Conway while closing in on her century. This brought the relaxed and sun drenched skipper to the crease with 3 balls to go but unfortunately the long wait led to a rather short innings when the 1st ball was well caught leading to a scramble for gear on the side-lines and the arrival of Babs to act as non-striker for the last 2 balls. Congratulations to Cathy who carried her bat through the innings and reached her 1st half century for the village.

With the sun still shining and the sun-block applied Malahide took to the field determined to take the 10 wickets required for victory. A combination of youth and experience opened the bowling for the visiting side with the experienced Laura Morgan picking up 4 wickets whilst bowling on 1 leg from one end ably supported at the other by Sorcha O'Carolan Murohy who kept the runs to a minimum. The opening bowlers were well supported at the change by Marianne Herbert 2 wickets, Clara Pryor McCabe 1 wicket and Lynn Adams 1 wicket. The Rush batswomen were put under pressure all the way through their innings by some very good fielding and tight bowling which led to the fall of wickets at regular intervals. An excellent piece of fielding and return throw to the keeper by 1st team debutant Caoimhe McCann led to a super run-out in the middle of the innings. Having watched most of the 1st innings the skipper was determined to get in on the action in the 2nd innings coming from miles away to collect a catch from under the bowlers nose and picking up another excellent catch in the deep to start the wickets off. Cathy Murphy added a catch to finish off her evenings work and Keeper Mary Waldron took 2 stumpings to help Malahide to finish with 9 wickets and a comfortable 93 run victory.

Thanks to Johnny Pryor again for umpiring and to Ev & Adele for scoring and all our supporters who came out to watch and enjoy the sunshine. Next up Railway in the village on Wed 6th.
