Match report On what was the sunniest evening of the season so far the Taveners saw off the southside visitors Terenure RFC (a combination of Terenure RFC and St.Mary's RFC) in a spirited yet relaxed perfromance. Maybe basking in the glorious sunshine meant the usual pre-match warm up routine was disturbed ?
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat. A disciplined bowling performance from all 10 bowlers giving little away allied to excellent boundary protection in the field particularly by Smith & Perry always had the visitors on the back foot. Mention must be made of Logan with his first maiden (probably team's first of the season), a C&B and final figures of 2/1/5, Condron with 2 wickets and exceptional overs from Connolly, O'Brien, Shoebridge, Perry and at the death Pilkington (2 overs for 2 runs) meant Terenure posted a score probably 30 runs short at 107.
Openers Keegan and man of the match, Pilkington both reached retirement better than a run a ball and they set the platform that enabled the batters following to plunder any loose balls. Smith and Connolly were catch victims both looking for the big 6. It was Condron and Perry who brought the team close to victory before Condron chasing his second 6 got caught deep in the field. That maiden man Logan then took to the crease and with a nonchonlant swing of his bat ensured the winning run was achieved in the 15th over. With Murphy, Shoebridge and O'Brien not even padded up victory was rather easily acheived in this instance. Next week sees possibly the final game of the season at home to Leinster. There is talk of a date in September against MUFC. Thanks to Ben Askew for sub fielding and to Andy Smith and the young Elder as well as Perry's 2 mates (only) for supporting. The overnight press reports had stories of Smith sizing up Taveners for next season !
