Match report Malahide U11Bs beaten in Cup quarter-final

The U11B team were knocked out of the cup on Sunday by a strong Merrion U11A team. Merrion won the toss and elected to bat, and Malahide made a great start with Ryan Court bowling out their opening batsman second ball. From then on the strength in the Merrion team showed with two players making the retirement score of 25 and the team reaching 76 for 1 at the halfway stage. Malahide then showed good fighting spirit to claw back with some wickets and good bowling from Cormac Burke and David O'Halloran to leave Merrion on 122 for 5 at the end of 20 overs. In reply, Malahide defended their wickets well but were always behind the required run rate. Ben Askew and Ben Rainey batted unbeaten for 10 overs before retiring, and a brief flurry of runs from David O'Halloran was not enough as Malahide ended on 55 for 7. A colourful final bowl saw all 10 Merrion fielders crowd around the bat, only for Jack Rainey to confidently dispatch the ball to the fine leg boundary!
