Match report The Malahide U11B team beat Balbriggan by 6 wickets in the first round of the Cup last Sunday.
Playing under normal rules for the first time, Malahide put Balbriggan into bat and started well with Ryan Court claiming a wicket in the very first over. What followed was an absolutely fantastic fielding performance by the team, with Hugh Joyce, David O'Halloran, Ben Rainey and Binyam Keegan all making super saves to stop boundaries and all showing the bruises to prove it! Cormac Burke was excellent behind the stumps and took a spectacular diving catch. Further wickets to David, Ben, Hugh, Jack Rainey and Eoghan Buckley (who finished with 2/9 from 3 overs) left Balbriggan on 7/78 at the end of their innings. In reply, Malahide started cautiously with Ben Askew showing solid defense and Matt Kavanagh looking good until he was tragically run out. David O'Halloran arrived to settle the ship with a superb 25 retired, and supported by Ben Askew (15), Ryan Court (5) and Eoghan Buckley (8 not out), Malahide reached their target with 6 wickets and 7 overs to spare. There wasn't even the need for Killian Burke, who was waiting patiently at number 10, to go into bat and bring the side home!
A great all-round team performance, well done boys!
