Malahide Cricket Club Lost By 22 runs.

Match report This match was closer than the final margin of 22 runs would suggest. The difference between the 2 sides came down to Leinster taking their catches and some good spin bowling in the 2nd half of the Malahide Innings. It was another step in the learning process for the Malahide U13A's, Leinster were a well organised team (as U11's last year Leinster won the Leinster Title and reached the All Ireland Final) without having any superstars but they bowled good lines, took their catches and knew how to keep the scoreboard ticking over . Excellent batting from Derry O'Connor, Conor O'Gorman and John Prendergast ensured that they set a very competitative score of 127. The best of the Malahide bowlers were Andrew Jackson and Ethan Bannan who both bowled very accurately and were unlucky not to take a couple of wickets each.
When Malahide batted, the quality of the Leinster fielding was shown as early as the 2nd over when Cian Reid's beautifully hit cover drive was picked up inches above the turf with a fantastic diving catch. Cameron Shoebridge and Scott Talbot then built an excellent partnership and kept Malahide up with the run rate. Cameron was particularly severe on any loose deliveries and he hit 7 boundaries before being retired on 35. Another couple of good catches accounted for Scott and Andrew Jackson which slowed the Malahide run rate. Ethan Bannan did his best to increase the momentum and hit a quick 19 including a 6, but when he was also caught Malahide were left with alot to do. Leinster used 3 spin bowlers all of whom did a good job of slowing the run rate in the last 3 or 4 overs and depite the best efforts of Riley Shoebridge, Gavin Dalton and Ryan Condron the innings closed 22 runs short of the target.
A special mention should go to Tommy Friel who fielded excellently and John Burke who was making his debut. In the last 2 matches the boys have seen the high quality of cricket in the U13A League and they will only improve as the season goes on.
