Match report
A thrilling U11B match against Rush at home on Saturday saw Malahide lose by 3 runs in the very last over.
Malahide batted first and despite losing a wicket in the very first over, went on to finish the innings with no further outs and a good total of 107. David O'Halloran top scored with 25 and together with Ben Askew put on a fantastic partnership of 38 runs in their 4 overs. Eoghan Buckley shone with 18 not out and Matthew Kavanagh (in his first ever game), Jack Rainey and Binyam Keegan all batted well. Next it was Rush's turn to bat and Malahide started well with Cormac Burke stopping everything behind the stumps and Ciaran O'Brien showing his cricketing maturity in the field. By the time the last Rush pair came into bat, Malahide were well on top with Rush on 98 for 4 off 17 overs, and requiring 25 runs off the last 3 overs. Killian Burke (his first ever wicket), Ben Askew, Jack Rainey (his first wicket too) and Cormac Burke had all bowled Rush batsmen by bowling straight at the stumps. However Rush had kept their best two batters until the end and despite heroics by David O'Halloran with two wickets in the third and fifth balls of the final over, they scraped home on the final ball with 3 runs to spare.
A thrilling end to a thrilling game, and although we didn't end up on the right side of the scoreboard, fantastic cricket was played by all of the Malahide team."
