On a wet and windy day in St. Finians College, Malahide 3rds and Mullingar 1sts went head to head in a T20 division 5 league game. On most days this game wouldn't have been played but with the home side looking to avoid relegation and with the villagers having travelled, the umpires generously allowed play.
After winning the toss, captain Brown elected to bat and after 4 overs Malahide were 41-0 albeit with the emigrating Hamish Manks on 0*. When Richard Wing was finally dismissed on 46 it started a collapse and slow down with only Leslee Muttathottill (19) and Richard Brown (14) the others to get double figures in a final total of 117 all out.
The rain persisted but so did the players and Malahide chipped away at the Mullingar wickets from the start with Conor Gibbons (2-11) and Stevie Smith (2-11) as economical as ever. It was a fitting end and tribute to the great man, that Hamish was finally thrown the soggy Reader and after a couple of early long hops, returned figures of 3-14 including taking Mullingar's last wicket with his last ball on Irish soil.
Hamish left the field to a great ovation from his team mates as he finished with yet another Man of the Match performance.
